On herd dreams and loss of identity

Browsing virtually any remotely social website or blog, I can’t help but notice the never-ending boasting fest. The photos of envy-inspiring travels, perfect bodies, dreamy partners doing all the right things, a splendour of expensive jewellery, cosmetics, clothes and apartments. A competition of whose life is more perfect, more carefree, more dreamlike is never-ending. Just looking at all those smiling faces on beautiful tropical beaches can inspire an uncomfortable, jealousy-stricken train of thoughts: why is my life not like this? Why is everyone better off than me? Am I doing something wrong?

On Nihilism and Happiness

These days I find myself at a certain crossroad, a culminating point in my life so to speak.

As soon as you finally graduate from college, after the initial thrill of achieving presumed freedom after years of education – freedom from exams, freedom from having all your spare time organized by other people’s requests and agendas, you find yourself facing a decision of a career to follow and the lifestyle that will inevitably come with it. You realize that you are facing another 40 or more years of your life spent as a sort of slave. Whether it is for someone else or your own business, you’re never ultimately free. Continue reading

The answer

What is love? This question has been asked so many times and yet everyone you may have asked have most likely had a completely different answer. In truth, love is just a word. It’s a word every single person defines on their own. It’s an abstraction and just as with many other emotions, no one can really claim to know the single true meaning of it. Continue reading

The best dating advice you’ll ever read

Today I found myself thinking about relationships and more precisely – relationship/dating advice. It seems that everyone on the dating scene these days is obsessed with what they should and shouldn’t do in order to attract/keep a partner. It’s enough to look at the articles flooding glossy magazines or visit a self-help/psychology books section in the nearest library. The tempting titles promise to teach you what and when to say, what to write in a text message after the first date, how to spend the dates, what to wear, how to gaze at the person, when and how to initiate a sexual intercourse. The myriad of bestselling book titles will range from “Dating Guru’s 101 Conversation Starters” to “The New Rules for Love, Sex, and Dating”. Continue reading

Why do people hate their jobs?

Living in the times which present us with more freedom and opportunities than ever, it makes one wonder why there are still so many people in the world who voluntarily work in jobs which they openly admit to hate. It has become a plague of some kind. There’s even a trend for music videos and songs which talk about these dreaded workdays and the desire to escape: Laurent Wolf’s ‘No Stress’, Avicii’s ‘I Could Be The One’, Stromae’s ‘Alors On Danse’ or Hilary Duff’s ‘Chasing The Sun’ to name just a few. The beautiful mind – reflections on how we limit ourselves

Lately, I caught myself torn between two (possibly even three) distinct ideas for my future career, almost paralyzed by the idea of sharing my time between two completely different goals. After all, we have all been taught that in order to achieve anything, we should choose one path and follow it with abandon, constantly taking steps and educating ourselves in this chosen field. On the other hand, I couldn’t quite accept the idea of choosing only one career. Continue reading
